The Solace is for anyone experiencing the loss of someone. You can visit a memorial page, leave a condolence or confirm your funeral attendance. Registered members are able to share memories, upload photos and receive notifications about important dates and events. Family members planning a funeral can ask their funeral director to create and publish a memorial - a central place that keeps everyone informed of funeral arrangements while celebrating their loved one's life with the wider community.
Where is The Solace available?
The Solace is based in Ireland and works directly with Irish-based funeral directors, however, anyone who wishes to honour a loved one after experiencing a loss can create a memorial page.
What is a Death Notice?
A death notice is a short written communication of the death of a loved one that is created by a funeral director on the memorial page.
What is an Obituary?
An obituary is a short biography of your loved one that features up to 10 photos. It appears in the ‘about’ section of a memorial page on The Solace, alongside their death notice.
What is a Memorial?
A memorial is a dedicated page on The Solace that honours your loved one in a personalised way when they die. It includes their life story, photos and messages from family and friends. You can revisit this lasting tribute forever.
Why create a Memorial?
Creating a memorial provides you with a place to honour your loved one's life, communicate funeral plans, and gather photos, memories and condolences in one central location. It serves as a sanctuary where grief meets grace, lives are celebrated and shared healing can occur.
How can I publish an Death Notice or Memorial?
Simply ask your funeral director to publish a death notice on The Solace. Families can then help create the obituary and memorial by editing and uploading content to their funeral director's page in a seamless way. If it has been more than 6 months since the death, please send us an email to hello@thesolace.com to set up a memorial page.
Can anyone post a Death Notice or Memorial?
We only accept notices from funeral directors however it is possible for users to create a memorial that does not contain death notice for someone who has died.
What if the funeral is taking place outside of Ireland?
For funerals taking place abroad, please contact us at hello@thesolace.com to create an obituary and memorial. This allows your family, friends, and community to participate in celebrating your loved one's life from anywhere in the world.
How much does The Solace cost?
The Solace is free for anyone who wants to engage with a memorial page, whether by lighting a candle, sharing a memory, or making a small gesture to support the family during the funeral. Funeral directors also have free access to The Solace, with paid features.
How do Donations work on The Solace?
You can choose from over 6,000 Irish charities as your partner charity for your loved one's memorial page. Through our partnership with iDonate, we ensure secure and seamless charitable donations for those who wish to support the family according to their wishes. Once you select your chosen charity, visitors can easily make secure donations to that cause.
What is a Small Gesture? Who can make one?
A Small Gesture is a thoughtful offering to support the bereaved family, typically in the form of a note/card, candle or other gift available through The Solace online shop.
Can I trust The Solace with my data? Is my information private and secure?
