Alan was born in Askern, near Doncaster, Yorkshire. Following in his father's footsteps he worked as a miner for the National Coal Board & following years of study became successful in various management roles at Frickley Colliery and Hatfield Main Colliery. Loved by his daughters (Julie & Claire) & the families as well as his former wife (Ruth)
